Get this. When she was in elementary school, people in Germany still celebrated the Emperor’s birthday (Kaisers Geburtstag). At the time World War II started, she was already slightly older than I am today. She retired around the time I was born. I remember both her 80th and her 90th birthday. Today, my grandmother turns one hundred years old. Wow! I won’t get to celebrate with her until next week but I was glad to hear she enjoyed the cake and the glass of champagne with the family today. Happy birthday, Omi!
