I don’t know when Apple’s iPhone will officially launch in Germany (I know a few people who bought one in the US to get their hands on it early). Apparently, an official ship date hasn’t been set yet.

The good thing about *camps, though, is you can start organizing one even when you don’t have a clear date yet: iPhoneDevCampGermany

Via Gernot: iPhoneDevCamp Germany

Palm Treo 680 + Mac + T-Mobile = Not working yet

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Seriously, how frickin’ hard can it possibly be to get dial-up networking going on your smartphone? Smartphone says it can do DUN, Mac says it can do DUN, and for all I know lots of people are already using T-Mobile for DUN.

Took me hours to finally get the Treo/Mac bluetooth pairing to work (delete pairs, reset Treo, reboot Mac, pair the two again, bla, bla). And it’s still not working (now apparently the GPRS CID string I’m using is wrong). WTF?

Of course, little to nothing is documented. Or if it is, you have to dig through some obscure forums on the web where most of the time they either talk about a different phone or an older version of the Treo, or a different phone service provider.

Most annoying thing by far ever since I got my Mac almost two years ago. I had almost gotten used to plug and play.

Anyway, if you’re using T-Mobile unlimited internet on an unlocked Treo 680 and you’ve managed to get DUN working from your Mac, please clue me in. I buy you a beer in Austin.

Looks like Santa came early this year with a nice add-on for my computer. Whee!

My radio TiVo

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

So I finally got around to setting up radioSHARK. The software installed on my Mac in a matter of seconds. Then you just plug in your radioSHARK device in any available USB port and you’re ready to go. I’m just now recording the interview with artist/painter Wayne Thiebaud I mentioned earlier.

Received my radioShark in the mail today as a thank you gift for supporting KQED. It’s an AM-FM desktop radio with time-shift recording capability. Think TiVo for radio. Can’t wait to try it out!

Under Fire

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

Just installed Fire 1.5.3 on my Mac.

Fire is a multi-protocol internet Instant Messaging client based on freely available libraries for each service. It is released under the GNU GPL. All services are built off of GPL’d libraries, including firetalk, libicq2000, libmsn, jabber, and libyahoo2 (Linux libraries).

Fire can handle similtaneous connections to AIM®, ICQ®, Yahoo!®, IRC, MSN® and Jabber.

With Fire I’ll probably be better available again on AIM, MSN, Y! and ICQ. Now, all I need is a WordPress plugin that shows my IM presence on the website.

Mobile RSS

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

So whether or not mobile RSS is the next big thing I’ll definitely try out using a feed reader on my mobile device shortly. I’m still looking for the right application, though.
